My Story

 

Leslie Felbain’s undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison is in Neurophysiology and Dance. Post-graduation she deferred medical school and became a street theatre performer studying mime, and circus techniques. Her performance journey took her to France where she trained with Jacques Lecoq, Serge Martin, Théatre du Mouvement, and Augusto Boal. She has followed a long international career as a performer, director, teacher, and coach in the worlds of circus, dance, and theatre including on and off Broadway. 

Her own injuries and healing journey led her back to her interest in how the body works. She became a Certified Teacher of the F.M. Alexander Technique, a Cranio-Sacral Therapist, a Somatic Experiencing and Transforming Touch Practitioner and a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher.  

She was a long-time instructor at the American Conservatory Theater’s MFA program in San Francisco and is Professor Emerita at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research focuses on trauma informed training and performance practices, for athletes, first responders, military, and performers. Her ongoing private practice integrates creative and healing arts. She is dedicated to service and has been a hospice volunteer for many years. Her Applied Theater work has included residencies in prisons, residential treatment centers, nursing homes, hospitals, and work with active, veteran military, and their families. Leslie is a Fulbright Specialist. She is a Creative Director with Giiraf.  She speaks English and French fluently is conversant in Italian, has a comprehension of German and is learning Mandarin.
